The Expansion Of Hai Song Plant Doubled The Production Capacity Of The Company'S Carbon Fiber.

Hai Song advanced materials company (Seoul, South Korea) announced that it will invest 46 billion 800 million won (US $41 million 500 thousand) to expand the PAN carbon fiber production plant in Jeju Island, South Korea.

According to the company, the expanded plant will produce 2000 metric tons of carbon fiber per year, and its annual production capacity will reach 4000 metric tons in the first half of 2020.

The new production line will produce high performance PAN carbon fiber.

The company said the expansion would support growth in the industrial market such as compressed natural gas (CNG) pressure vessels and hydrogen fuel tanks.

Hyosung said it will also aim at the aerospace market by producing medium modulus and ultra-high strength carbon fibers for the next generation of two and second spaceflight structures.

"The aerospace industry and our industrial customers have always wanted to see an increase in the capacity of Hyosung carbon fiber, which will support their growth," said Kenny, vice president, carbon fiber division.

Our customers also require the production of non size carbon fibers. We introduce these fibers to support their high temperature thermoplastic applications in aerospace, oil and natural gas.

The statewide plant has been producing carbon fibers since May 2013.

Hyosung developed the Tansome brand carbon fiber in 2007. In 2013, the company became the first Korean company to commercially produce PAN carbon fiber.
