Yellow Vest

Paris's "yellow vest" campaign has been going on for nearly two months. The violent demonstrations caused by the new fuel tax policy have cast a terrible shadow on Paris.

Last week, a gas explosion in a bakery near Lord's department stores killed 4 people.

Though not a participant in the "yellow vest" movement, it has aroused many associations.

France is not the largest market for European brands, but also the capital of luxury goods, jewelry and perfume. The world's largest luxury group LVMH and Kai Yun's headquarters are located in Paris.

In 2015, the Paris terrorist attacks on the local tourism industry and retail trade continued for a long time, and the negative effects of that year may happen again after a series of dangerous events in these months.

The third quarter results of the summit in December 31, 2018 have been affected by the demonstrations, with the exception of the Middle East and Europe.

Excluding the newly acquired Yoox Net-a-porter (YNAP) and the used high-end watch operator Watchfinder in 2018, the overall performance growth slowed to 6%.

Retail sales in some parts of Paris have slowed down to 5% because of the "yellow vest" campaign.

If the revenue of YNAP and Watchfinder is calculated, the total sales of the group will increase by 25% to 3 billion 920 million euros.

Sales of jewellery and watches business in the Asian market are still strong, an increase of 10%.

In particular, sales in the mainland of China contributed to two digit growth, but the growth of local sales slowed down in Hongkong due to the high exchange rate of Hong Kong dollar.

Such a performance does not appear to be worrying about its performance in the eyes of analysts.

In a recent report by Rogerio Fujimori, a RBC capital market analyst, pointed out that in the third quarter of the difficult environmental impact, the group had an organic growth of 5%.

LVMH group's 2018 fiscal year results will be announced in January 29th. The year-end financial report of Kai Yun group will have to wait until February 12th. When the number of luxury groups is affected by the "yellow vest" campaign, it will be clear.

But the impact of "yellow vest" on retail sales may be just the beginning. After that, marketing and new product launches are likely to be affected.

Fashion brands remember the demonstrations at the end of November at Champs Elysees street in Paris, when more than 30 luxury stores in the street were hit by looting and looting. Just a Dior store looters robbed more than 1 million euros worth of goods.

This has made many fashion events have to be cautious, and the upcoming Paris men's clothes week has begun to adjust its schedule.

According to the "women's Wear Daily", many brands have rearranged the launch time of new products to avoid collision with the "yellow vest" campaign on Saturday, January 19th, which usually takes place on Saturday.

Dior has advanced the launch date to January 18th, and some brands have chosen to notify the audience in private, and ask for confidential information to prevent demonstrators from sabotaging.

"We have been consulting with local police to ensure that everything is going well during the fashion week," Ralph Toledano, President of the French high fashion Union, said.

He also said that this was not the first time that the schedule of fashion week was disrupted, and that Paris had also encountered such a situation in 2015.

Besides the "yellow vest" campaign, other political events will also predictably strike the French market.

In March this year, Britain will be officially off Europe. The economic turbulence that may result from Europe may lead to a weaker pound, which may attract some French tourists.
